Empowering Hong Kong through Chinese Music – the HKCO Net Festival

It takes concerted efforts to fight against Covid-19, and music is a good way to motivate us at times like this. In this spirit, the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra announces the HKCO Net Festival for everyone to connect in the Cloud.

Although the pandemic has forced social distancing on the community, it also unexpectedly opened an online gateway for those who love Chinese music to come together as one in resisting this scourge. The HKCO has a proud history of connecting and sharing through mass events, such as the Hong Kong Huqin Festival, Hong Kong Zheng Festival, Hong Kong Dizi and Xiao Festival, Hong Kong Drum Festival, and Hong Kong International Youth Chinese Music Festival. We now invite Hong Kong composers, conductors, music teachers and instructors, drum teams, and Chinese music groups or individuals to participate in the online platform – the HKCO Net Festival. Music compositions, music videos, drum performances to invigorate, tuneful Chinese music playing to sooth and heal – as long as they contribute to the anti-pandemic energizing force, they are welcome. Please submit your works to us by electronic means, and we will post them on the HKCO Net Festival. Hong Kong will face the future with renewed momentum from such positive energy from you!

Yan Huichang

Artistic Director and Principal Conductor for Life of the HKCO

The HKCO Net Festival covers the following three areas in the main:

Local composers are invited to send in new compositions using the battle against COVID-19 as the theme, to tell stories behind it, or to boost the morale of our community at such difficult times. These works are expected to open up a new vista for the future of Hong Kong.

Chinese drum groups are invited to send in video clips showing them in action. The uplifting drum music is expected to boost the morale of our community.

All Chinese music professionals and enthusiasts – ensembles, individual performers, educators (including part-time instructors hired by schools) and freelance musicians – are invited to send in video clips showing them playing Chinese music. By sharing the wonderful sounds, we hope to bring gratification and peace of mind to all listeners and viewers.

Submission Deadline: 29/6/2020
