The Abbos Percussion Group was founded in 1998 by Abbos Kosimova, a professional performer on the traditional instrument doira, and an Honoured Artist of Uzbekistan. The Group is made up of musicians from Uzbekistan playing traditional instruments such as the karnay, surnay, doira and nogora, melodic instruments such as the tanbur, gijjak and dutar, and those of dance music. The Group is also one of the first to use these instruments in ethnopop.
The Group is enjoying growing popularity all over the world, with its execution of international compositions performed on the karnay and the sunray. The repertoire includes Western and Russian music, as well as works by Kazakh, Kyrgyz and Tajik composers.
The Group has been on tour to the United States, France, Britain, Germany, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Taiwan and many other countries, taking the audience by storm with its Uzbek sounds everywhere it went.
Over the years, the Group has strived to create new tunes, music and videos, while going on new tours in Malaysia, Taiwan, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Dagestan.
The Group has regularly participated in international and national festivals and competitions. Since 2010, it has been taking part in the Nowruz Festival (Persian New Year) held in Turkey every year. In 2012, the group participated in The Great Silk Road Festival held in the city of Houston, Texas, USA.
Since 1999, the group has participated in national holidays such as Uzbekistan Independence Day, Nowruz and others.
The Abbos School was created in Uzbekistan in 2011 to train up young doira players. The teacher of this school is Ravshan Yunusov, one of the best students of Abbos Kosimov.
