Law Wang-sum

Law graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with a Bachelor of Music (Honors), specializing in Chinese
percussion under Yim Hok Man and minoring in Western percussion under Choy Lap Tak. His percussion journey began in primary school with Tse Tsz Chung. Throughout his studies, he received several scholarships, including the William Au Arts Education Scholarships and the HKSAR Government Scholarship Fund - Talent Development Scholarships. Notably, Law was awarded the Tin Ka Ping Mainland Study and Exchange Programme, where he studied Peking Opera percussion with Professor Wang Jianhua in mainland China.

He has achieved numerous accolades, including the Champion title at the ‘King of Drums’ Challenge during the 18th Hong Kong Synergy 24 Drum Competition organized by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra. Additionally, he was named "Best Drummer" at the 2023 Hong Kong Synergy 24 Drum Competition and secured second place in Chinese Percussion at the 2024 IPEA Percussion Elite Performance.

Law also won the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Concerto Competition, collaborating with the Academy Symphony Orchestra to perform "Palisander" for 4-Row Xylophone and orchestra. He participated as a percussionist in the solo ensemble for the concerto "Joyful Encounter of North and South" at the annual concert of the Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra. He also led the percussion and orchestra performance of "Twilight Drum" in the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts Chinese Orchestra's special performance of Li Bochan's works, together with four students majoring in Chinese percussion.


Currently, Law works as the Assistant Music Officer II (Chinese) in the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. His experience includes being a freelance musician with the Macau Chinese Orchestra, the Macau Orchestra, and the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, as well as serving as the section leader of the Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra and a member of The Moving Drums. He has also participated in the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra's Professional Orchestra Internship Programme.
