A huqin virtuoso with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Li Xiaoding has been with the HKCO since 2011. Li was born in Shanghai and received her early training in erhu under Lu Peijian and Xiang Zuying. She graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music with a Bachelor’s degree in 2008, majoring in erhu under Huo Yonggang and minoring in banhu. She was awarded a government grant to continue with her postgraduate studies the same year, and completed her Master’s degree programme in 2011. While at the Conservatory, she was a recipient of the People’s Scholarship, and held two huqin recitals in 2011 and 2010.
Recent performances include: in two huqin ensemble concerts – ‘Strings to Remember – String Stories III’ (2018) and ‘The Chinese Music Time Machine’ (2015), Li performed several ensemble pieces of diverse styles and formats on the eco-zhonghu. Since then, she has played in different parts of its huqin sections, performing solo and ensemble parts in the HKCO4U concert series.
