Famous virtuoso and educationist in zheng music, Wang Zhongshan is on the faculty of the China Conservatory, a supervisor on its Master's degree programme, and Deputy Head of the Department of Chinese Music.
He has a distinguished character as a performer, which won him the praise as He is considered one of the most influential zheng artists in China today. He has invented the new fingering techniques of 'rolling', 'plucking with finger-plectrums on both hand', 'multiple finger rolling' and 'left-hand rolling'. Together they have opened up a new vista for zheng music. Some of his compositions have been included in the syllabuses of the China Conservatory and the Central Conservatory of Music, and as examination pieces at advanced level of many national accreditation institutes. Many of his students have won in national and international competitions.
Wang has given many solo recitals and lectures in Southeast Asia, Europe and America. His publications include Wang Zhongshan's Collection of Zheng Music, and audio-video releases include several solo albums such as Qin River on My Mind, Melody of River Han, as well as dozens of CDs as teaching aids. Wang is listed in The Essentials of Chinese Music and Who's Who in the Contemporary Music World of China.
